- They maintained human oversight. AI outputs were reviewed, evaluated, and refined by people with domain expertise. The AI augmented human judgement rather than replacing it.
- They measured honestly. They defined success criteria before implementation, not after, and they compared AI-assisted performance against a genuine baseline, not against a hypothetical worst case.
- They accepted iteration. The first implementation was not the final one. They expected to refine prompts, adjust workflows, retrain models, and occasionally discard approaches that did not work.
A Strategic Framework for AI Adoption

Phase 3: Integrate. Once a use case is proven, integrate it into existing workflows rather than creating parallel processes. The goal is that AI becomes invisible infrastructure, not a separate initiative that requires constant attention.
Phase 4: Scale. With proven value and integrated workflows, expand to adjacent use cases. Each expansion follows the same pilot-measure-integrate cycle. Resist the temptation to scale faster than your data and team can support.
This framework is deliberately conservative. In a landscape where most implementations fail, conservatism is not caution. It is the fastest path to genuine results.
